Using the library

Loan and loan period

The Library of the Academy is a traditional closed access library, i. e., only a few parts of the whole book stock are available in open access areas.
However, requested media will generally be provided immediately.
Members of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities as well as the staff of the Academy, all persons who are at least 18 years old, and institutions are allowed to borrow media. The mentioned persons and institutions must be resident in either Berlin or in the county of Brandenburg.
Generally the loan period is four weeks.
Persons who do not meet the requirements for borrowing media have the possibility of using the holdings of the Library of the Academy in the reading room during opening hours.
The registration and receipt of a library card takes place free of charge at the lending desk of the Library of the Academy (No. 22/23, Jägerstraße) on presentation of the identity card.

Orders

Orders can be made in person, by phone, and  by E-Mail . Copies from books and periodicals will be provided by the copy service of the Library of the Academy. There is the possibility of making print/scan copies as well as re-enlarging documents stored on microfiches or microfilms. Copies and re-enlargements will be charged according to the scale of charges.
